Clinical and environmental surveillance of Candida auris
RATIONALE
Clinical and environmental surveillance of Candida auris is crucial for the control of infections by this emerging fungus, known for its resistance to multiple classes of antifungals and its ability to persist in hospital settings.
Detecting possible colonization of patients allows early recognition of cases and potential sources of spread among other inpatients.
Environmental surveillance, on the other hand, helps detect the presence of C. auris on healthcare surfaces and equipment, helping to prevent cross-contamination.
These integrated practices facilitate a rapid and targeted response, reducing the risk of outbreaks and improving the effectiveness of infection control measures.
